On March 17-18, 2025, Vrnjačka Banja hosted a two-day workshop focused on implementing anti-corruption preventive mechanisms within the integrated border management system. The workshop brought together 20 representatives from the Border Police Directorate, Customs Administration, Veterinary Directorate, and Plant Protection Directorate.
The goal of the workshop was to strengthen the capacities of officers for more efficient and effective performance of tasks that contribute to preventing corruption and enhancing integrity within border services. Additionally, it aimed to build the capacity of officers to implement activities outlined in the Action Plan for the implementation of the anti-corruption preventive mechanism at the regional and local levels within the border management system. Through a series of lectures and interactive activities, participants gained insight into key corruption-related concepts, ethical codes, and the legal and institutional mechanisms available in the fight against corruption.
The first day of the workshop covered topics such as corruption mechanisms, causes of corruption, and analysis of real-life corruption cases within border services. Participants also discussed Croatia’s experiences and the international context in combating corruption. The second day was dedicated to assessing corruption risks, the Action Plan for implementing the anti-corruption preventive mechanism, and analyzing specific activities outlined in the plan, such as employee oversight, staff rotation and transfers, and communication with the media and citizens.
The workshop concluded with a knowledge assessment of participants, an analysis of the knowledge gained, a summary of key topics, and the formulation of recommendations for future activities. The workshop was organized as part of the "EU Support for Efficient Border Management" project, funded by the European Union.
